How to Remove or Install KTM, Husqvarna, or GasGas ECU

Watch this video for step-by-step instructions on how to remove your dirt bike’s Engine Control Unit so you can safely ship it to us for mapping. Below, we have transcribed the instructions depicted in the video.

Removing the ECU

  1. Remove the side panel

    • Locate the side panel bolt and remove it.

    • Take off the side panel.

  2. Remove the seat

    • Lift and remove the seat to access the ECU area.

  3. Release the rubber straps

    • Place your index finger underneath the rubber straps.

    • Pull up on one strap, then the other, to free the ECU.

  4. Disconnect the ECU connector

    • Locate the connector button (positioned at about a 45-degree angle).

    • Press the button firmly.

    • While pressing, pull the lever to release the connector.

    • The connector should slide off easily (similar to many automotive connectors).

  5. Package the ECU

    • Once removed, package the ECU securely.

    • Send it in for remapping.

    • Typical turnaround time is 1–2 business days.

Reinstalling the ECU (After Remapping)

  1. Apply dielectric grease

    • Apply a small amount of dielectric (silicone) grease to the connector.

  2. Reconnect the ECU

    • Push the connector back into place until it is fully seated.

  3. Secure the ECU

    • Reinstall the rubber straps to hold the ECU in place.

  4. Reinstall the seat and side panel

    • Put the seat back on.

    • Reattach the side panel and secure it with the bolt.
